Why fire makes us human - Jerry Adler

I've just found this.

Really interesting article, proposing that cooking has had a far bigger impact on what makes us human than previously thought.

The Great Apes spend four to seven hour a day just chewing, which is not an activity that prioritises the intellect.

By contrast, the cooking process massively sped up the time humans spent eating, freeing us up to consider our philosophical needs, not just our physical needs.
